It’s officially been one week since Camp NaNoWriMo started, and I am both exhausted and super motivated! I’ve written so many words, and I am deep into my novel now. There’s no turning back!
If you don’t know what Camp NaNo (that’s what I’ll be shortening NaNoWriMo to in this post) is, it’s a special event surrounding NaNo! Well, what’s NaNo? NaNo stands for National Novel Writing Month, and it’s a challenge to write 50 thousand words in the month of November. Essentially, write a book in a month! The difference between regular NaNo and Camp, is Camp takes place in April and July, and people can choose whatever word count they want.
Me being me, I still went for the 50 thousand.
You might be asking, Makayla, what are you writing about? Oh, you didn’t ask? Well, my book another vampire novel, because apparently I can’t resist! It takes place in another world, there’s court drama, and of course a hunky bad boy. My protagonist is strong, but she questions herself, and it’s been fun to write her growth so far!
Current word count: 18,564
Yay! I’m ahead of schedule! According the Camp NaNo website, I’ll likely finish around April 19th if I continue at the pace I’m going. This gives me plenty of time to mull over my words in case I get stuck.
Mood: Ecstatic!
I’ve been in a bit of a writing slump, and when I started working on this project, I was super motivated! It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to dive this heavily into a writing project, but this one has gotten my gears going!
Currently Listening to: Danheim!
I thought it would be cool to show what I’ve been listening to. Whenever I sit down for a writing session, I turn up my Spotify and get into the zone. For this project, I’ve been listening a lot to Danheim. If you enjoy Viking and Scandinavian sounding instrumentals, this is totally for you! Every time I listen I feel like I’m going to battle with my words. Maybe I am.
A tip!
I thought I could round off this check-in by giving a little tip to maybe get you through your NaNo writing.
Resist the temptation of editing.
I know how hard that can be. Its one of the biggest things I have to remind myself to follow! I’m constantly wanting to go back within my work and edit things. When NaNo comes around, this is the first thing I tell myself. Do not edit. Editing takes away from the valuable time you could be using to get the words on the page!
Favorite line so far!
I could probably choose a plethora of lines, so this was an extremely difficult choice! I wanted to choose something that lets you into the protagonists head a bit without giving anything away.
The thing I hated the most about vampires was their uncanny ability to know someones emotions by the sound of their heart. Unfortunately for me, the hammering in my chest was the one thing about myself I wasn’t able to control.
